Paano Na Kaya

Some liked it, some felt shortchanged as they expected an exhilarating movie experience of the classic girl-falls-for-best-friend premise but didn’t get it. Bottom line: if you’re looking for a novel twist to romance and expecting to be moved to tears dahil sobrang na-capture nito ang “tunay na buhay,” then pick another movie, maybe watch it another time. But if you’d like to see a cute-looking pair prance around the screen through cuts and takes and then kiss happily in the end, and more importantly, kung Kim-erald fan ka, then by all means watch Paano Na Kaya the next chance you get!
Kim Chiu plays Mae Chua, a goody-two-shoes Filipino-Chinese girl, secretly in love with her best friend, Bogs Marasigan, played by Gerald Anderson, who is naturally in love with someone else. Predictably – and possibly too because of the unimpressive scripting throughout the movie or the weak plot line – a conflicted love triangle and how Bogs struggles with his feelings choosing between his best friend and ex-girlfriend is played out for about two hours of screen time.
Mae becomes Bogs’ girlfriend but Mae fears she might just be the rebound girl. Ex-girlfriend comes back and Bogs asks himself: sino ba talaga’ng mahal ko?
Of course it’s a happy ending for Mae and Bogs; and all in all, even with its dialogue flaws and Gerald’s acting struggle, the movie will make you smile. Kim Chiu’s acting is impressive, she showed genuine emotions and managed to justify her role. The support cast of Zsa Zsa Padilla, Rio Locsin, Cai Cortez and IC Mendoza also added fun and flavor to the film.
